Data Architect

We are looking for a Data Architect to join our team. This position will directly report to the Senior Director Applications and Data and is responsible for providing solution designs and implementations in collaboration with other key stakeholders such as the VP of IT Business Solutions, Director of Data Services, infrastructure architecture, and IS Security.

Job Responsibilities:

• Databricks on Azure: Design and implement solutions using Databricks on the Azure platform, including Python, Apache Spark™, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog. Implement secure solutions by understanding and configuring Databricks' security model and related settings.
• SQL Server Technologies: Provide solutions as appropriate for on-premise and cloud SQL Server technologies, including SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Azure Technologies: Understand broader Azure environment in which data solutions are deployed including security and appropriate cost management
• Technology Recommendation: Evaluate and recommend the appropriate use of SQL Server technologies versus Databricks technologies based on specific project requirements and business goals.
• Data Engineering: Apply data engineering principles, including data modeling and ETL processes. Utilize familiarity with data science concepts as needed to provide data solutions for data scientists.
• Technical Leadership: Collaborate with management on technical strategy and implementation for large-scale data projects, ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Customer-Focused Solutions: Deliver tailored solutions and act as a trusted advisor to clients, ensuring successful adoption and integration of Databricks solutions.
• Interpersonal Skills: Interface effectively with internal customers, including data scientists, to understand requirements and deliver optimal solutions.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with non-technical business users and operational teams to provide support and ensure project success.
• Documentation and Road mapping: Document current and future states as part of a multi-year roadmap and oversee technical project execution to achieve roadmap objectives.
• Data Management: Develop data models, metadata structures, and pipelines. Recommend best practices for data collection, usage, control, sharing, and restoration.
• Regulatory Compliance and Security: Collaborate with other teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and data security. Set up access controls, data encryption, anonymity/data masking, and additional security measures as needed.
• Data Consistency: Establish and distribute common data vocabulary alongside technical artifacts to maintain consistency across the organization, even in non-technical teams.
• KPI Management: Work with business stakeholders, business analysts, solution architects, and the data services director to establish the processing and staging of both leading and lagging KPIs for passive reporting and proactive data-driven behavior change.
• Project Management: Oversee or be directly involved in completing various upgrade and migration projects. Work with multiple vendors to implement and complete projects.
• Team Collaboration: Work as part of a team with minimal oversight to complete complex projects.
• Communication: Communicate regularly with management concerning recommendations for improving systems, services, processes, and support.
• Certifications: Databricks Certification and Azure Certifications a plus but not necessary

• Minimum of an associate degree in MIS or Computer Science and/or equivalent relevant work experience
• 10+ year’s experience in architecting data solutions and implementations
• Ability to translate business requirements into databases, data warehouses and data streams
• Able to define data architecture framework, related security, reference data, metadata and master data
• Able to implement supportable data quality processes
• Understands the system development life cycle
• Plan for and develop APIs to retrieve data as needed
• Able to obtain business requirements and map them to technical designs that achieve functional and non-functional requirements
• Able to evaluate build vs buy scenarios, research products/tools to be employed for a given business problem, recommend the right mix of insource/outsource resources and make recommendations with clear pros & cons
• Understand how to remediate and avoid technical debt, making sound recommendations on how to architect solutions that are supportable, maintainable and move us forward toward multi-year roadmap objectives
• Experience with Azure desired

Knowledge and experience with:

• Database design, SQL, T-SQL stored procedures & scripting
• Cloud-based Lakehouse technologies – Databricks preferred
• Python
• DevOps
